This received recently…

'As many of you will have noticed the main A606 is in a terrible state through the village. There have been numerous attempts to repair this stretch of road, ranging from the council just standing in the middle of the carriageway, emptying a bag of tarmac onto the surface and hoping that by some miracle it will stick.

Their most recent efforts following the abortive attempts at surfacing the road a few weeks ago where they were thwarted by weather, poor traffic control and blocked drains. This week was to 'patch' the road surface, only to be scheduled to dig it all up again on the 7th August when they are due to start the proper resurfacing. It wouldn't surprise if the patched surface is as good as it gets. If you drive on the A606 to Melton you can see that Leicestershire have spent a great deal on upgrading the steep section of known as Broughton Hill which had also become very worn. Notts plan is to only repair the downhill side of the road.

It really is shambolic. You only have to look at the cart track which Hickling lane has become. Huge agricultural machinery, lorry's and neglect all contributed to the road now being at the stage where the council are unlikely to spend anything on the road again and would be happy to see it closed to vehicular traffic.

Nottingham Lane on the way to Old Dalby is another example of Nottinghamshire skimping. The first section still in Notts has recently been patched but remains rough, narrow and poor. There is a line in the road at the border where Leicestershire have at least top-dressed the road and made some attempt to maintain.'
