Welcome to Upper Broughton.

Information and events in Upper Broughton Autumn 2018

Upper Broughton is a small village situated on the Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire border in the East Midlands, UK. With a population of some 250 people it is a small, friendly community on the edge of the Vale of Belvoir. Occupying a hill top position the village has commanding views over wide open countryside as far as Belvoir Castle. Once a farming stronghold Upper Broughton is now mainly a commuter village, well situated for Leicester, Nottingham, Melton Mowbray, Loughborough and surrounding areas. Original Melton Mowbray Pork Pies were until recently made in the village.

The Upper Broughton Neighbourhood Plan

Where are we up to in the process?
You will remember that a draft Neighbourhood Plan was prepared earlier in the year and made available over the summer for comments from anybody :  not only villagers but also public bodies such as councils, heritage and environmental agencies, and of course property developers.
Our consultant then collated all the comments, and told us what to do in response to them.
Your Steering Group has now made the recommended changes (lots of work), and we are in the process of preparing the final version of the Plan. Most changes are relatively minor. But one substantial change is the way Non-Designated Heritage Assets are addressed.

What happens next?
The proposed plan, incorporating all revisions to the Draft Plan, will be presented to the Parish Council for approval on their meeting scheduled on January 22nd 2019.

If approved by the Parish Council, it can then go off to be examined by government appointed independent assessors.
